About

The vital elements and tools of my work are sensitivity, sensuality, and openness to what is seen and experienced. I seek always to combine a natural sensual approach with the Stoic concept of flourishing through knowledge.

I choose simple elements, pencil, paper, wood, and paint, as these offer immediacy with a measure of stability, and a range of tones, colours and textures.

My influences and inspiration include:

  • the poetry of Walt Whitman’s “Body Electric”, transforming simple physicality into a vibrant expression of life;

  • David Bomberg’s “spirit in the mass”; and

  • Alfred K. Siewers’ idea of landscape as “the physical environment that mediates between the human mind and nature”

Perception, intelligence, and physicality integrated and expressed through an active engagement with the tangible world.
